Azalea Gall

Azalea Gall

6 June 2022. Walk

Azalea gall (Exobasidium vaccinii). Exobasidiumm vaccinii produces galls on host plants in the Ericaceae (Heath) family including azalea, rhododendron, blueberry and huckleberry. We learned that this was the plant’s response to a fungus infecting the black huckleberry flower! Join us to see the gall-flower and the hemi-parasite cow-wheat and hear the songs of Indigo Bunting, Prairie Warbler, Pine Warbler, Field Sparrow, and Eastern Towhee on our Sunday afternoon at 2 pm walks.
